Supporting the Arts in Our Schools
The CLASS Education Foundation proudly supports Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) programs across our schools! Through outreach to local businesses and community fundraising events, we help bring more music and arts opportunities to students throughout the district.
Rhythm in Motion: Bringing Music and Movement to Fair Oaks Elementary
On May 5th, the CLASS Foundation brought creativity to life at Fair Oaks Ranch Community School with Rhythm in Motion, a joyful celebration of music, movement, and art. Nearly 40 fourth-grade students took the stage for a ukulele performance, showcasing the skills they had built throughout the school year.
The event welcomed Assemblymember Pilar Schiavo, who joined us to recognize the students' hard work and celebrate the partnership between the CLASS Foundation and Sulphur Springs Union School District in bringing enriching arts programming to local classrooms.
Students and families explored rhythm through hands-on drumming, painted to the beat, danced, and moved in creative ways — discovering firsthand how tempo, sound, and motion come together as a shared language of expression. The celebration wrapped up with a community raffle, featuring music lessons, instruments, and fun experiences generously donated by local businesses and community members.
Rhythm in Motion is just one example of how CLASS brings its Creativity pillar to life giving students the chance to explore, create, and build confidence through the arts.
How has CLASS helped so far?
Thanks to Proposition 28 state funding, music education returned to the Sulphur Springs Union School District in the 2022–2023 school year! Every third-grade student learned to play the recorder, marking an exciting milestone for our arts programs.
In 2023–2024, CLASS expanded the program with a $5,000 donation to purchase ukuleles for fourth graders—allowing students to continue developing their musical skills.
“I love the music program. My son has very much enjoyed the ukulele this year! I hope it continues.”For the 2024–2025 school year, CLASS further enhanced early music education by purchasing percussion instruments and shakers for students in transitional kindergarten through second grade.
What’s Next for CLASS?
CLASS is currently working to secure funding for classroom xylophones to support the District’s music instruction. These instruments will provide hands-on opportunities for ensemble work, creativity, and improvisation, helping students build collaboration, problem-solving, and self-expression skills through music.
We’re also planning to host a District-wide music festival! A fun, family-friendly event that will showcase student talent and celebrate the joy of music learning!
